Thank you for the pictures of Paris. Today I am just thinking about Paris, even went to a Napa French bistro for lunch. I enjoy your writing. I feel like you are a friend catching me up. Someone asked me today what chef I like lately. Of course I said Dorie Greenspan!

My husband's family had a tradition that started with his maternal grandmother. Every birthday cake had 3 items hidden inside: a nickel, a dime and a button. The nickel was for fame, a dime was for wealth and the button meant you would never marry (or remarry if you already were married). One time my mother-in-law made a cake for her housekeeper's birthday. When asked who got each item, the housekeeper replied "Jim got the nickel, Sue found the dime, but nobody got the button!" That was always a story told at each birthday gathering as a reminder to check your slice of cake!

Oysters and Champagne in Paris, it's hard to be that trio, pure celebration. I can see how that image your friend painted set in motion the dream. A dream you have so beautifully made real!

I've had Paris on the mind since the holidays, what a lovely, lovely set of memories. My friend just told me a pastry chef nearby is still making galette des Rois and we should buy one together--done! Thank you for this beautiful read, Dorie!

We crossed the Pont Alexandre III multiple times on our last trip to Paris in November 2022. C’est magnifique! Thanks for your beautiful memories and photos, Dorie! You always make me wish I lived there too!

I was in Paris at Christmas and was surprised to see the Galette des Rois in bakeries and absolutely had to give it a try. I’m not sure I’ve tasted anything so delicious. They warmed it slightly and that was breakfast for probably way too many days.

Back in NYC I saw that they have an Angelina’s on the UES and what was in the window on display? You guessed it! I haven’t tried it yet but perhaps next week when I’m over on the ES post a 2-hr dental procedure. Lovely reward for all my pain & suffering. :)
