Lovely recap of your Paris visit. I focused in on that Tarte Tatin Cake. What flavor is it? Can you point me to a recipe or any suggestions to try to make it? If I make it back to France I will have to get to Rayonnance. Thanks for sharing 💕
Lynn, the cake was fabulous and I hope that when you return to Paris you'll go to Rayonnance. It's a wonderful place and you'll love meeting Yuki and Lumi. I'm so glad you're enjoying the newsletter - xoD
You make me want to visit Paris again! One and only time was in April 1988. My rule since I turned 60 is to see as many different places as possible. Memories for the bank. But I think I need to return.
We recently traveled to Paris only to see the Rothko exhibit at the Fondacion Louis Vuitton. An exhiliarating experience that managed to turn this non-Rothko fan into a believer. Hope you have seen or can fit it in as it ends soon.
Doris, the Rothko exhibit was awe-inspiring. We saw it in October and have been thinking about it ever since. We're so lucky to have seen it - it was extraordinary to see so much of his work so beautifully installed - xoD
Your washing machine tale reminded me of the last trip (November-December) to Paris. The last two days I was there, the ascenseur was not working. A workman who was installing scaffolding on the7th floor had to carry it up. And I had to carry my four bags down. There were numerous other problems with the apartment, so I related to your "walk-through."
WIll add all of your suggestions to the on-going list. I brought back packs of Punitions last time, and it was amazing how well they did. Not one of them broke!
Oh Pamela! Paris is a city of surprises - and they're not always as sweet as the Punitions from Poilâne. I bring those cookies back with me too - they make a delicious gift and, as you learned, they travel well. I'm so glad that you like the newsletter - thanks for being here - xoD
Off topic, but...on moths, what was your solution and did it work? I took note of a throwaway line on the topic, that you can always try the French way with sweaters: tuck a little sachets of cloves in with your sweaters. I haven't had any problems since I started doing that, and it's not the worst thing to have a little aroma of clove in the air.
Fran, how wonderful to see you here! Sadly, moths are never off topic. We've tried so many things and everything seems to work a little and for a little time. I like the idea of clothes with the aroma of cloves. Friends told me to go to the Luxembourg Garden and collect chestnuts. I did. The treasure hunt was fun, but the chestnuts were ineffectual. On to cloves! xoD
Yes there’s humor to be found in the Wi-Fi issues in France but I think the secret to having (mostly) reliable service is that no matter how many times it changes or they ask you to “upgrade” or they promise you something — don’t fall for it! (With my last provider, I actually stood in the middle of my apartment and screamed. I think I tore a vocal cord…)
Hmmm, is screaming at home better or worse than crying in the middle of the provider's store? I couldn't help myself. And they couldn't help me. Thanks for the never-upgrade advice - xoD
Nicola, both of those sweets were wonderful and stunning, I think, in different ways. I think we both share a love of pastries like these - they look simple, but pack surprises - xoD
Im on the edge of my seat for the next project, and so endeared to read the tiny tidbits bits of your days in Paris. I know that feeling of returning to a place you love, and needing to loose yourself to it for a bit 🤍 xx
Dear, dear Sarah. Project news coming soon. And yes, I know that you know what it's like to return to a place you love. You write about that so well in your newsletter - xoD
As always love your updates, food seems so interesting and creative in Paris, one day I hope to stay for a few months and just eat 😄 and bake… what a life!

I second the request for a Tarte Tatin Cake (Gateau Tatin?) recipe; it looks sublime.
(And thanks, as always, for your updates❣️)
I love and relate to this line: “....it’s delicious to have something that’s all yours”
Funny about that, isn't it? Also, maybe the reason cookies and cupcakes - those one-to-a-person treats - are so beloved. xoxoDorie

To return to places? To go to new places? It's wonderful to have these questions in your life - xoDorie
And when I’m not traveling I’m baking. But all my tasters are grown. I can’t freeze the stuff anymore. But I read cookbooks like novels.

Here in NY my building has had a clothes moth problem for decades. The best solution I found are glue traps that use pheromones to attract the males

I cannot believe that baguette shaped chausson and the tart tatin cake. My heart belongs to paris!

Hi Dorie,
I’ve experienced horrible little beastie moths
Feasting on my oriental rugs. A rug dealer
Told me about Green Way moth traps on Amazon. They bring death to those beasties and
The don’t harm children or pets.
Once again I wish I could sample what you enjoy
while in Paris! Thanks for sharing!❤️😊
Mary Sue
Ohhhh those beastie, beastly moths. So tiny and so destructive. Off to search for Green Way - merci for the recommendation - xoD

Marianne, I hope your dream comes true! xoD
I'm all yours any time you need a tester! Any time I need a real dazzler to take to a party, one of your recipes always comes through for me.
Vicki, thank you so much - heart!heart! - xoD
Wow just first reading your blog and loving it. Do you rent out you apartment
I'm glad you're enjoying the newsletter. And nope, I don't rent our apartment - xoD
Makes me miss not only Paris but everything outside of New York State.
I understand - it's the way I feel when I'm not in Paris - xoD
